Guess what will be in the field after execution of next lotus script:
call doc.replaceitemvalue("someitem", true)
The interesting thing is that it is not 1 or -1 or even 0.
It will be an empty string.
If you check Lotus Notes help you will not find information about how Lotus Notes makes conversion of Boolean values when you write it to a document field.
